After the success of the Synology HAT5300, Synology has now launched the HAT3300.
Synology HAT5300 compared to HAT3300
While the HAT5300 is an enterprise hard drive, the HAT3300 is a NAS hard drive. The industry standard is 3 years for NAS drives (1.0M - 1.2M hours MTBF) and 5 years for enterprise drives (2.5 million hours MTBF) and the Plus series is no exception. RPM of the HAT3300 is 5400 (4,6,8TB), which is lower than the 7200 RPM of the HAT5300.
The Synology HAT3300 is mostly based on Seagate's Ironwolf, not on N300
Since the HAT5300 is based on the Toshiba MG platform, you would think that the HAT3300 should be based on the Toshiba N300 as well. However, the RPMs, MTBF and Carton Quantity suggest that it could be a Seagate Ironwolf drive. Since we do not have the full specifications yet, it is difficult to make a prediction.

Synology makes some compelling reasons to use HAT3300 in the entry and Mid Level NAS series
- Compatible and tested with Synology : Current and future releases will all have a 100% compatibility with Synology
- Easy firmware upgrades via DSM thanks to deeper integration. You need at least DSM 7.1.1 update 4 for this.
- Support for models starting from Plus series: Models up to DS223j are supported, so even users of entry-level models can have a Synology drive for their device.
- Affordable : HAT3300 will be more affordable than the HAT5300
